Our Mission

To protect and preserve the natural integrity of Colorado’s 14,000-foot peaks through active stewardship and public education.

About Us

Colorado Fourteeners Initiative was formed in 1994 as a partnership of nonprofit organizations, concerned individuals, and public agencies. Our mission is to preserve and protect the natural integrity of Colorado’s Fourteeners after a 1993 study noted significant environmental impacts due to rapidly expanding recreational use.

SB 58, the bipartisan-sponsored recreational access bill developed by the Fix CRUS Coalition, is off to a great start. Voted out of the Senate Judiciary Committee Monday on a 5-0 vote, then through the full Colorado Senate today on the "consent calendar", which means there was no debate. Now on to the House for a future hearing. Getting this bill passed and signed into law is a crucial step to ensuring that private 14er owners feel better protected from liability claims such that they either don't close access and/or reopen access to peaks that are closed today. There is a lot riding on this effort, so stay tuned regarding how you can help with this legislative effort. ... See MoreSee Less

It's time to celebrate our 2023 Outstanding Agency Partner of the Year – Joshua Voorhis! 🌟 Josh, the District Ranger for the U.S. Forest Service Pike & San Isabel NF & Cimarron & Comanche NG, South Park Ranger District, has been a huge asset in the recent land acquisition initiative on Mount Democrat. His outstanding efforts, coupled with his exceptional relationship-building skills, have been instrumental in maintaining strong ties with local landowners and county officials. Josh's leadership extends beyond land acquisition – he's played a role in planning improvements to the Kite Lake trailhead amenities. But Josh's humility and teamwork truly set him apart. 🤝 In a selfless gesture, he requested recognition for his colleague, Alixandra Jensen, who has dedicated the past two years to developing the Kite Lake master plan. Together, Josh and Alixandra form a great team, making invaluable contributions to CFI's work on the Mosquito Range peaks. 👏 Join us in applauding Josh Voorhis and Alixandra Jensen for their exceptional partnership and commitment to our National Forests! #OutstandingAgencyPartner #CFIAwards2023 ...
