Mount Antero

Recommended Route Baldwin Gulch Route—use of this route will help to reduce impacts to this Fourteener’s fragile alpine environment. For more detailed route information including pictures, maps, and elevation profiles, click here.

Route Information and Additional Resources From Buena Vista go south on US 285 for eight miles, then west on Colorado 162 for 12.5 miles to Baldwin Gulch road. Go south on Baldwin Gulch Road. After 2.5 miles the road forks east (left) and ends on Antero’s south shoulder just below the summit. This is a very rough, steep and narrow (single width wide) four wheel drive road. It has very limited passing areas or wide spots and has steep drop-offs above timberline. It is advisable for hikers to park near Baldwin Creek below timberline and hike on the road. Staying on the road minimizes environmental impact to the mountain.

The above information does not replace the need to consult additional maps and Colorado Fourteener Guidebooks for more detailed route descriptions. We suggest checking multiple resources before departing on any hike. Keep in mind that not all guidebooks list this recommended route and that each guidebook’s description or route name may vary slightly.

Peak Specific Environmental and Safety Concerns Please stay on the road. The talus slopes are loose and prone to erosion.
