September 23 – 26: San Luis Multi-day Project – Register here

Peep the changing aspen leaves, while lending a hand on this remote peak located in La Garita Wilderness. The San Juan Mountains collect a lot of winter snow and spring thawing contributes to soil loss and erosion. CFI needs volunteers (who can handle fall 14er temperatures) to help retain the tread surface to ensure preservation of this beautiful area.

Plan to meet at the Stewart Creek Trailhead in the afternoon and hike 4 miles, where the group will set up camp for the night. Hike about a mile to the worksite, to help the crew improve switchbacks, build backwall, retaining wall and install rock check steps. Additionally, the trail corridor needs to be widened and drains need to be cleaned and re-shaped. On the last day volunteers will finish up any last-minute work, pack up camp and head home.
